ICAO ATC Departure

In this lesson, we give an example of a pilot departing with ATC.

Explanation Exchange
If required you can request a radio check.
“Eelde Tower, Aero 123, radio check 118.705”
If requested the controller will give you information from 1-5 on readability.
“Aero 123, Eelde Tower, read you 5.”
The request for departure information is like our request for aerodrome information.
“Aero 123, request departure information.”
The controller will information on active runway circuit direction if required, weather information and the QNH.
“Aero 123, runway 05 wind 030 degrees 6 knots, QNH 1001, temperature 22, dewpoint 18.”
Read back the runway and QNH
“Runway 05 QNH 1001, Aero 123”
Report ready to taxi.
“Aero 123, C152 at L Apron request taxi VFR to Drachten. 1 POB.”
The controller will issue taxi instructions.
“Aero 123, taxi holding point C1 via B and C runway 05 QNH 1001.”
Read back taxi clearance.
“Taxi holding point C1 via B-C runway 05, QNH 1001, Aero 123.”
Report when you are ready for departure.
“Ready for departure, Aero 123.”
Some airports like Eelde have VFR departure routes that are issued to leave the control zone.
“Aero 123, hold position. After departure left turn route X-Ray not above 1000ft until leaving the control zone boundary.”
Report once you have the traffic insight.
“Holding. After departure left turn route X-Ray not above 1000ft until leaving the control zone boundary, Aero 123.”
The controller will issue take-off clearance.
“Aero 123, wind 030 degrees 6 knots, runway 05 cleared for take-off.”
Read back the required parts.
“Runway 05 cleared for take-off, Aero 123.”
The controller will hand you to the next controller if one is online or Unicom.
“Aero 123 contact Ledle Approach  120.305”
Acknowledge.
“120.305, Aero 123.”
Make the initial call to approach. If Unicom you can make calls.
“ Ledle Approach, airborne turning left flying the X-Ray departure climbing to 1000ft, Aero 123. ”
They may issue instructions.
“Aero 123, Ledle Approach, report control zone boundary.”
Acknowledge.
“Wilo, Aero 123.”
Report as instructed crossing the boundary.
“Aero 123, passing the control zone boundary, 1000ft.”

“Aero 123, Roger contact xxx”

From this point, it would be the same again either they pass you to the next controller or they tell you to contact Unicom.
