ICAO AFIS Arrival

In this lesson, we will give an example of a pilot arriving at an airport with AFIS.

Explanation   Exchange
Make the initial call.
“Walden Information, Aero 123.”
The Controller will reply.
“Aero 123, Walden Information.”
Pass your details to the controller, the same as we do in the UK
“Aero 123, C152 over seatown, 1800 ft, for landing.”
The AFISO will inform you of active runway and weather conditions
“Aero 123, Runway 27, wind 260 5 knots, temperature 15 QNH 1004, no reported traffic, report left base.”
The controller will ask you to report the aerodrome in sight.
“Aero 123, Runway 27, QNH 1004, wilco VCA123.”
The controller will ask you to report the aerodrome in sight.
“Aero 123, left base.”
Acknowledge
“Aero 123, report final.”
Once you have a visual of the aerodrome inform the controller.
“Aero 123, final.”
 
“Aero 123, runway 27 free for landing, wind 260 5 knots”
Read back the handoff instructions.
“Runway 27 free for landing, Aero 123.”
Make the initial call to the tower.
“Aero 123, runway vacated.”
 
“Aero 123, taxiway alpha available to the flying club.”
After the initial contact pass your information.
“Will taxi to the flying club via taxiway alpha, Aero 123.”
