Overhead Join

All aircraft arriving at Sherburn use the overhead join, so I thought I would help explain it. What confuses people is if for example in the image below the arriving aircraft was coming from the south what about if you were coming from the North? At Sherburn, this is not possible due to Leeds East but you would position yourself so you could join as shown below. The below image is the standard join, check the airport procedures for things like circuit direction join heights, if no information is available then it’s safe to assume the standard overhead join would be how you join.

The image describes what you need to do here is a link to the original pdf.

If you cannot find any information on circuit direction and heights/altitudes I would always advise you to assume its left hand and 1000ft AGL. And join 1000ft above that 2000ft.

You do not always have to join overhead, you could join for example on base or downwind, even long final. It depends on what the airport has published.

Practice makes perfect have fun.
